2nd Day of Fall

It is getting cooler down here on the coast and trust me, it is welcome! Don’t let these more comfortable temperatures fool you. Hydration is essential to staying healthy on the job. Remember to limit caffeine (sodas, coffee, energy drinks) through out the day. Drink cool water before you start working. That way it will already be working in your body before you begin any strenuous activity.

Here are some reasons you need water in your body

  1. Staying hydrated allows the body to get the nutrients from the food you eat through your system so you can use it for energy
  2. Proper hydration helps the body to digest and metabolize food and nutrients
  3. Hydration helps the body eliminate waste more efficiently
  4. Some of the water you drink is transformed into sweat which allows the body to regulate its temperature properly

There are no hard and fast rules that apply to everyone when it come to the proper intake of fluids during the day. Your goal is at least 64 ounces of water per day.  If you sweat a lot, you are at a higher risk of dehydration and you need to drink more to make up for the loss. If you don’t sweat, you are still not off the hook. You too are losing water (though at a slower rate) and you need to replace it.

If you are working and get a headache or start to cramp, chances are you are dehydrated, drink water. It is a simple fix and its cheap too.

Don’t become a statistic, stay hydrated!
